"English language challenges"

Hi guys, I hope you are well!

In this new Blog I will talk about my experience learning English at the University and how it has been my progress and complications over time.

Now, my experience since I started with English at the University has been a new world, because when I got to higher education I had already been two years without having an English class (I was two years without studying). And although in high school it was not one of my favorite subjects, I paid a lot of attention because they had exchange teachers and they made very didactic classes and helped us through their games and songs to write and pronounce English correctly.

On the other hand, the English Blog helped me a lot in writing and being able to write about different types of things and stories, and the fact that it is about personal experiences makes it more fun and easier to write.

Finally, personally I consider that my level of English is not very good, it requires more practice and I don't use it much in my day to day life. Therefore, it is very difficult for me to write and pronounce it, but my weakest point is writing, and although the blog helps, I need to reinforce it. So, I was thinking of taking a more intensive course to improve and have a more advanced English before leaving the University, for professional life.

"Changes to my study programme"

In today's blog I will tell you about the career that I studied, the wonderful "GEOGRAPHY" and where I study it.

Well, first of all, as I mentioned before, I study Geography, a very varied and rich career in diverse knowledge about our environment and planet.

Based on its curriculum, I would personally make some very minor changes, for example, I would add more land, since I consider that in this career the practice is fundamental and I would increase the number of specialization electives.

Secondly, with respect to the academic load, I would eliminate the evaluated assistantships, since as the word says, they should only be assistantships to provide a reinforcement to the branch and to the curriculum, because the academic load of the assistantships that the University carries out is often equal to the professorships carried out by the professor.

Thirdly, the infrastructure of the University is not the best, although it is a historical center, it does not present much comfort for its students, since it does not have, for example, an adequate casino for students, faculty and workers to have lunch in a comfortable and dignified way.

In fourth and last place, the use of technology should be enhanced, especially in geography.

Finally, the teaching method of all teachers is not the same but so far I have had more positive experiences with teachers than negative ones.

Time travel to the future

In this new blog I will tell where I would like to be in the future, the plans I would like to make in that place and why I would like to stay there.

In the near future I would like to go to Africa, maybe it is a dream more than a vision for the future, but you could call it a frustrated dream.

I would like to travel to Africa to do some volunteering and help many people who are living in bad conditions especially children, the exact time in which I want to perform this action is uncertain but perhaps in about ten or twenty years. When I can have the means and the study to be able to travel and the means to give some help.

On the other hand, Africa is a place that for me personally as a future geographer has a lot of material to study, such as water scarcity, and its high vulnerability to the aggressive climate change facing the world and the enormous inequality that the continent presents.

Finally I would like to stay there just for a while to be able to help and learn about that beautiful culture, as well as to study its landscape from a geographical point of view. But then return to my country to be able to practice my profession.

My future job

The type of work I would like to do would be outdoors, working face to face with nature, always with the goal of protecting the environment and ecosystems.

As I mentioned before, I would like to work in the field because it is more exciting. Otherwise, I would like to get to know many landscapes and their geomorphology, so traveling is my priority in my dream job.

Salary is not my priority, but I hope to be paid what my work is worth, since many times the work that geographers do is not valued as much as it should be.

On the other hand, within the specialties that my career has (which are many) I would not know which one to choose, since I thought that after two years I would be clearer, the truth is that everything seems to me too interesting and complementary.

Finally, the profession of geographer is very beautiful and changes our life and the way we look at it. Personally, it helped me to create awareness of my environment and to begin to take care of our planet and its wonderful landscapes, to take care of water and to know about the right of it to people, among many other wonderful things of the profession.

How the pandemic have affected my studies.

The pandemic has been a global health crisis that has changed our entire way of life.

Personally, for me it has been a negative change since I have never liked to spend many hours in front of a computer without being able to move much and with this online modality you spend full days in front of the computer, both in classes and doing group work.

Therefore, I miss too much the face-to-face classes and those breaks where you could take a breath of fresh air in the courtyard of the University and talk with your classmates with whom I have an excellent relationship and we work in a pleasant atmosphere. However, many times the conditions at home are not the most suitable and I have many distractions.

Finally, the disadvantages are greater compared to the advantages of online classes, such as: tedious classes, heavy academic load, little time for me, lack of land, etc. As an advantage I can happily point out that I have been able to spend more time with my family since I had to leave my hometown when I entered the university, so my younger sister is the happiest that I have not returned to Santiago.

Music or Film

My musical tastes are quite varied, I like happy and moving music like salsa or romantic music, folkloric music etc.

But the style that marked my childhood and adolescence was rock and a little bit of blues by the hand of the wonderful and talented "Janis Joplin".

An authentic singer with a husky voice who sang the sweetest and most tender lyrics.

One of my favorite songs of hers is "Little Girld Blue" when I listen to it, it gives me a peaceful, relaxed and emotional feeling because of its beautiful and touching lyrics, just like when I listen to any other song of hers.

Janis became very famous in the 60's, specifically after performing a show at the Monterey Pop Festival accompanied by her band "Big Brother and The Holding Company", immediately her unique powerful voice and intense interpretation brought her to fame.

Finally, Janis' years of glory and fame did not last long, as she died of a heroin overdose in 1970 at the young age of 27.

The best holidays ever

Although I have not traveled many places and I have not had the opportunity to go out of the country, I consider that my best vacations were when I was a little girl, and we would go with my family to the house of an aunt who had a lake near the town of Puerto Nuevo.

So far, they have been my best vacations because we spent them all together and we played games as a family, we camped in the yard, we played in the lake, we cooked together, and we rode horses.

It may not be amazing but for me it was perfect because we spent time together and shared different generations so hearing anecdotes from grandparents and uncles was always the best part.

For me those vacations have a great sentimental value as I learned many things like swimming, horseback riding, learning about animals and cooking.

In the end it may not be the best vacation for others, but I looked forward to it at the beginning of every year.
